Last night the Old Year passed away, all
Scarred with guilt and sin;
This morn the New Year, pure and white,
Time's angel ushered in.
The starry midnight gates were flung
Upon their hinges wide,
The angels dipped their silv'ry oars in
Time's incoming tide.
